Is there a Plain app?

The official FAQ directs players to the browser version at playplain.app and explains how to add it to a phone’s home screen. Phones can still keep an icon on the home screen, which the FAQ describes as Add to Home Screen or Install app.

A home-screen icon is a shortcut to the same browser game, not a separate download.

Where the game actually runs

Open playplain.app. The FAQ says you can play as a guest, with progress kept in the browser, or you can register with a username and password (no email required) or with Google. The terms require age 13 or older to create an account; anyone may play as a guest under the published terms. Nothing in the FAQ, about page, or terms page names an App Store or Play Store package for this game.

Add it to the home screen

On iPhone, use Share, then Add to Home Screen, in Safari. On Android, the browser’s menu offers Install app or Add to Home screen once the site is installable. That icon opens the same site. It is not a file you sideload, and there is no size to quote because there is no package. I leave the file size blank on purpose.

Store results that are a different “Plain”

Search suggestions mix this game with other products. The Microsoft Store lists “Plain Games” by Jaybird Labs, a word-search app. That listing is not playplain.app. Aircraft games and boarding-pass toys also use the word plain or plane. Check the publisher and domain rather than identifying a product by its icon. The page for that mix-up is plain versus plane.

If you are about to play today’s puzzle, the rules summary is on how to play. Scoring sits on its own page.

Questions

Can I get Plain on the App Store?

Not as a native app, on the pages checked 4 Nov 2026. The official FAQ points at the browser and at Add to Home Screen.

Is Plain Games by Jaybird Labs the same thing?

No. That Microsoft Store listing is a word-search app from a different maker.

Does it cost money?

The FAQ says the game is free. Ads, when the game shows them, stay outside the round. Streak freezes are earned, not sold.
